UW’s DIY Underwater Science and Exploration

UW’s DIY Underwater Science and Exploration

Presented by: University of Washington Ocean Technology Center (Seattle, WA)

The University of Washington School of Oceanography is proud to support DIY ocean science experiments at the new Ocean Technology Center. Drop by their booth to learn how the tools and tech of the maker revolution are helping them build their own scientific instruments.

For hands-on fun create different noises in their Click-Clank-Boom! Tank. Hear your underwater noise played back over speakers and learn how they build the hydrophones that are listening to the sounds. Experiment with hot and cold water in the Particle Storm Tank to generate turbulent flow and see how to build a simple probe to measure the temperatures. UWROV’s Manta robot can dive to 100 ft., record HD video, and manipulate its surroundings with its robot claw.
